His Show Garden ‘A Swimming Pond’ built for The Hampton Court Flower Show 2001, had as its main feature a large natural pond with a deep-water section designed for swimming.

It proved popular with the public, media and judges alike and received a RHS Gold Medal and The Tudor Rose Award.

The swimming zone itself is a walled rectangular section, which sits 30cms below the water surface. Not visible from above it creates a deeper open area of water. Surrounding this, clear shallows meet extensive reed beds and bold sweeps of various marginal plants.

A wetland landscape, quay-side deck areas and rustic, riverside dwellings, which includes a sauna, a round summerhouse and a shower (all with thatched roofs) completes the relaxed feel one associates with a rural idyll.
